Indeed, such is the world of virtual makeover, the latest fad to have gripped the city youngsters.
Calling it the 'fun thing' - and that, it definitely is - youngsters are reaching out for the virtual world where everything is possible. One can check how one looks in different hairstyles, dresses, glasses, lipsticks, hair colours, belts, eye kohl, coloured contact lenses, hats and shoes among many other things. Says Katie Dsouza, a hotel management executive, "It's quite incredible and good fun. Like, if I want to try a new haircut at a parlour, I can check out before hand whether it'll suit me or not with the help of an online makeover guide. So, I think it's pretty cool. Also, it is free and, one doesn't have to shell out a bomb on consultation fees." For many it's an extension of their imagination, and a medium to unleash their creativity. "The best thing about it is that you can try out different styles and dresses without physically doing it. You really don't have to imagine how you might look in a certain outfit or hairstyle but actually check it out," says Ami Trivedi, CA. How does one go about it? "It's very simple. Just log on to any website that has virtual makeover and upload your picture. After that, simply follow the instructions," he adds. Even psychologists agree that going in for virtual makeover can help one in enhancing one's confidence. "Virtual makeovers can give instant boost to the personality of a person, since feeling happy when one is looking smart and handsome is a human tendency." But, she advises those who are too involved in such sites to go really slow. "One should not indulge too much, since they might have a tough time in accepting the reality later." For some, such sites offer a great opportunity for honing their creative skills. Aarti Gadgil, a student of Fashion Designing, agrees, "Since I want to make a career in styling, it gives a perfect opportunity to practise without making any actual blunders. Moreover, I'm fascinated with the idea of styling other people. At the same time, it gives me a chance to test my creativity and have fun." We have seen the transformation of appearance in countless movies. Now, we can even try it sitting at home on our computers. Sounds interesting?
